Re-imagining the Digitization of African(Nigerian) Agriculture
Even as we all weather through this challenging time, we re-imagine our farmer-centric focus in our vision of digitizing the African agricultural market.
The goal of our marketplace launch in 2022 was to onboard digitally-savvy farmers to easily plan their production and harvesting cycles and access better markets for their produce.
In doing so, we have our KPI not just on registrations but on activation (our operational ability to work with them).
Lately, as we re-imagine what the digitization of our Agric market will be, our role in it and the building blocks needed. We seek not only to solve our above goal but also to address the problem of multiple activations of farmers by many players who measure the ‘number of farmers’ in any form. We are well aware that not all farmers’ data points are equal, and not all can be digitally represented. We know as we focus on the digitally enabled farmers, we will surely get more facilitators (middlemen) than actual farmers and those who are exactly in the upstream but may be surely play in chains of production. If you agree with us, middlemen are not really the problem in agriculture; if anything, they facilitate more transactions and exist in every sector of the economy.
Hence, we also focus on registration for the purpose of a better representation. Our organization already boast of 2,500 networks of farmers and our marketplace initially had 150 registered farmers, which we have grown in a couple of days by reaching out to our network, to 250 registered. We will be launching an API for them if we can cross 1,000 farmers and make it FREE for any other organizations to access them, reconcile their databases, filter them and provide services for these farmers.
If you know a Nigerian farmer, help us achieve this by encouraging them to sign up here:
We can only move faster when we collaborate, and we don’t see why an organization, spends on onboarding and reaching 10,000 farmers. And another will have to spend the same amount or more to onboard the same farmers. This free access will be granted to not just Agtechs, but also NGOs, and organizations in the value chains that have value to offer farmers.
If you have a database of farmers that you want to primarily include, kindly reach out to us farm@daydone.com.ng
Thanks
